Peanut Butter Fudge Treats

Peanut Butter Fudge Krispy Treats

Some things are over the top for even me. Some things are so good that they actually hurt. I’m a real sucker for all chocolate and peanut butter combinations… but really!? Chocolate, peanut butter AND Rice Krispy Treats? Out of control. I think I pulled a baking muscle. These bars are so rich, so over the top, so peanut buttery, that I think I need to stick to only baking broccoli this weekend. I think I hurt myself.

These are just the treats I want to pawn off on my neighbors and coworkers. They’ll thank me, and they’ll hate me. I can live with that.

Peanut Butter Fudge Krispy Treats

This recipe comes in three parts. Three crazy good, belly busting, lick the spoon over and over and over again parts. And they’re easy too! Yea.. this recipe is nothing but trouble.

I made these bars in a 9×13-inch pan and cut the bars into 1-inch squares, although I think even those were too large.

Rice Krispy Treats

Print this recipe!

  • 3 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 package (10 oz., about 40) regular marshmallows
  • - OR -
  • 4 cups miniature marshmallows
  • 6 cups Rice Krispy Cereal (or any puffed rice cereal)

1. In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.2. Add Rice Krispies cereal. Stir until well coated.

3. Using buttered spatula or wax paper evenly press mixture into 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan coated with cooking spray. ( You may want to line your pan with parchment paper or waxed paper large enough to have flaps hanging over the sides. This will make it easy to pull the giant block of goodness out of the pan when it’s done. I just forgot this step. But as recorded in the comments below, some people had trouble with the wax paper sticking to the Krispie treats.  A well sprayed pan might just be your best bet!) Cool. Make Peanut Butter Fudge.

Peanut Butter Fudge

recipe from Alton Brown

  • 1 cup butter, plus more for greasing pan
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 pound powdered sugar
Peanut Butter Fudge Krispy Treats
Microwave butter and peanut butter for 2 minutes on high. Stir and microwave on high for 2 more minutes. Add vanilla and powdered sugar to peanut butter mixture and stir to combine with a wooden spoon. Pour over the Rice Krispy treats in the pan and spread evenly. Let cool in the fridge while you make the Chocolate Fudge.

Easy Chocolate Fudge
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 2/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 2/3 cups sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 cups miniature marshmallows
  • 1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp vanilla
Peanut Butter Fudge Krispy Treats
Combine butter, milk, sugar, and salt in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil; cook 4 to 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Stir in marshmallows, chocolate, and vanilla,. Beat for about 1 minute, or until marshmallows melt and mixture is thoroughly combined. Pour over peanut butter fudge, spread evenly and place in the fridge to harden and cool. Cut into 1-inch pieces or smaller and give to your friends. They’ll thank you, sort of.

Oh yum. I’m planning on making this tomorrow. I noticed the instructions include nuts in the chocolate fudge, but it’s not the ingredient list. It doesn’t look like there are nuts in the photos, so I’m gonna go without. Do you have printable recipes somewhere?

Joy, you evil woman! I made these last night for an office party today. I halved the recipe and used an 8×8″ glass pan. I also added 1/2 tsp or so to the Rice Krispie layer. After I made the whole thing, I kept sneaking corner cuts from the fridge even before they were completely hard.. then I trimmed the edges before I cut the batch into 1″ squares and, of course, I just HAD to eat the “trimmings” plus a few more squares to taste.. Then today at the party while everyone else was making noises about them, I ate a few more pieces!! I had to give the recipe to two co-workers. Thanks much for testing this out first. It’s a keeper!!!

Sorry, I meant to say that I added 1/2 tsp or so of vanilla to the Rice Krispie layer. Thanks again!

Hi Joy!
Having recently discovered your website, I am in love with you, your baked goods & your blogs. The diverse recipes presented all seem modified to perfection, many basic ingredients blended together with love, creativity and vibrant descriptions so that even the inexperienced baker may enjoy them. I am a cook who expresses similar passion about my dishes, though if given a choice between salty or sweet, I will always opt for the former!
Besides the design of your site, which is visually appealing and a pleasure to navigate, the comical passion with which you quip about each recipe is delightful! Through your website, which has now become my baking bible, I am learning to love sweets!
But I must make a criticism about this recipe: using wax paper was a Bad idea! The regular Reynolds wax paper used stuck to the bottom of the wonderful treats so badly that it is coming off in shreds, and while I battle to scrape it off the sticky surface, the yummy fudge layers are getting damaged :-/
Just wanted to warn anyone else. That said, you are still my baking goddess!

Hey Jenna- thanks so much for you comment! I’m so glad you’ve found a place to help you enjoy the sweet life. You’re comment was really thoughtful and sweet. Really, thanks.
So the wax paper didn’t work for you!? Ooooh no! I’m so sorry! I mentioned in the recipe that I skipped (or forgot :)) this step, so it’s really good to know that it doesn’t really work. Thanks so much. I’m sorry you had a hard time with it!
I hope you have a great holiday!

Philly Girl- I know! It’s totally evil of me to post this recipe. It’s nothing bu t dangerous. I found myself shaving off slice by slice too. They’re just too good!

Lisa W. I fixed that. No nuts! Well… only if you’d like them I suppose.

Thanks for all the lovely comments everyone! Thanks so much.

I made these. The chocolate and peanut butter overwhelmed the buttery, good vanilla-ness of the Rice Krispie treats. Too much!

These seriously scare me… Too much sugar at one time. But the Rice Krispy Treats sound good!

I made these, and they are totally amazing. I even forgot to add the sugar to the chocolate fudge and they were still delicious! I had to give a bunch away, just so my fiance and I wouldn’t eat them all ourselves!

I have been waiting to make these for my bday (later this month). It can’t come soon enough (is it weird that I am excited to make/eat these more than I am for my bday?)
1 important question: Should these be refrigerated?

Our son often says, “Dad, you don’t like peanuts or peanut butter, but you like Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. How come?” Well, these bars are like peanut butter cups on top of his other favorite sweet treat – Rice Krispie Treats! I made these today, very good. I had to add more melted butter to the peanut butter fudge because I only had fresh ground on hand, still turned out okay. Thanks for the recipe.

So I just made the P/B Fudge Treats and it looks insanely good! Am a little worried though as I misread the instructions and threw all the choc fudge ingredients in the pot together – waiting to see if the fudge will set or be a big gooey mess. Though I know will be eaten by all regardless!! Thanks Joy, I am one of your newer website addicts.

Totally made these and brought them to work to save myself from heart attack. My boss ate one and then pretended to hurriedly reach for his insulin. Cheesy I know, but pretty accurate actually.

First time I’ve made something you listed – and, oh my – we should videotape people’s responses as they take the first bite. it ranges from a sigh of relief to calm acceptance of the sugar rush. Awesome.

Oh-my-gosh….insanely good! My grandmother used to make something similar to these, but with cheerios instead of the Rice Krispies. I made these goodies tonight for my brother’s neighborhood holiday potluck. He just moved to his new home….he’s guaranteed to be the most popular guy on the block with these gems! Thanks for the recipe. WOW-ZA!

I used to make a no-fail fudge using sweetened condensed milk. I noticed that your recipe has evaporated milk. I just want to make sure I make these right. ‘Cuz I WILL be making these. ;)
