Peanut Butter Fudge Krispy Treats

Some things are over the top for even me. Some things are so good that they actually hurt. I’m a real sucker for all chocolate and peanut butter combinations… but really!? Chocolate, peanut butter AND Rice Krispy Treats? Out of control. I think I pulled a baking muscle. These bars are so rich, so over the top, so peanut buttery, that I think I need to stick to only baking broccoli this weekend. I think I hurt myself.

These are just the treats I want to pawn off on my neighbors and coworkers. They’ll thank me, and they’ll hate me. I can live with that.

Peanut Butter Fudge Krispy Treats

This recipe comes in three parts. Three crazy good, belly busting, lick the spoon over and over and over again parts. And they’re easy too! Yea.. this recipe is nothing but trouble.

I made these bars in a 9×13-inch pan and cut the bars into 1-inch squares, although I think even those were too large.

Rice Krispy Treats

  • 3 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 package (10 oz., about 40) regular marshmallows
  • - OR -
  • 4 cups miniature marshmallows
  • 6 cups Rice Krispy Cereal (or any puffed rice cereal)

1. In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.2. Add Rice Krispies cereal. Stir until well coated.

3. Using buttered spatula or wax paper evenly press mixture into 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan coated with cooking spray. ( You may want to line your pan with parchment paper or waxed paper large enough to have flaps hanging over the sides. This will make it easy to pull the giant block of goodness out of the pan when it’s done. I just forgot this step. But as recorded in the comments below, some people had trouble with the wax paper sticking to the Krispie treats.  A well sprayed pan might just be your best bet!) Cool. Make Peanut Butter Fudge.

Peanut Butter Fudge Krispy Treats

Peanut Butter Fudge

recipe from Alton Brown

  • 1 cup butter, plus more for greasing pan
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 pound powdered sugar
Peanut Butter Fudge Krispy Treats
Microwave butter and peanut butter for 2 minutes on high. Stir and microwave on high for 2 more minutes. Add vanilla and powdered sugar to peanut butter mixture and stir to combine with a wooden spoon. Pour over the Rice Krispy treats in the pan and spread evenly. Let cool in the fridge while you make the Chocolate Fudge.
Peanut Butter Fudge Krispy Treats
Easy Chocolate Fudge
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 2/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 2/3 cups sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 cups miniature marshmallows
  • 1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp vanilla
Peanut Butter Fudge Krispy Treats
Combine butter, milk, sugar, and salt in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil; cook 4 to 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Stir in marshmallows, chocolate, and vanilla,. Beat for about 1 minute, or until marshmallows melt and mixture is thoroughly combined. Pour over peanut butter fudge, spread evenly and place in the fridge to harden and cool. Cut into 1-inch pieces or smaller and give to your friends. They’ll thank you, sort of.

Oh my gosh! I’m getting a sugar high just looking at your photos! Looks so good! But, yes, I’m sure they’re very rich! (I might just have to put myself through the torment this weekend.)

  2. Jo

Those look SO good. Totally would satisfy my pregnancy cravings… I’m going to have to try to make it after I get over this cold! YUM. :)

  3. CB

My PB loving husband will go BONKERS over these! I definitely put this one on my baking bucket list! ;) Happy Friday Joy!

  4. Mrs. L

Oh My Lord those look incredible! You could pawn those off on me anytime. Seriously, I may get pregnant just so I could have an excuse to crave these!

  5. deb

“I think I just pulled a baking muscle.” Hee hee. I have to use that.

P.S. A little birdie told me that a whole section of the Jan. Bon Appetit is devoted to peanut butter. I am trying to breathe calmly.

  6. Deanna

Another treat I have to make! I love your recipes but you are causing me to overindulge almost daily! I can’t wait to try these tomorrow.
    Thanks!

  7. Jaina

Oh my gosh those look divine. I’m going to have to make them too, the bf will love them.

  8. Amanda

That literally looks like crack. The kind where you hoard the entire batch to yourself and you end up devouring in front of the television while watching SATC reruns. Alone.

    Sign me :)

  9. Erik - Baking in Oregon

Whoa. Major sugar overload. This is the kind of dessert that I didn’t need to know existed. I imagine that in that picture of you in the earlier post, that grin on your face was you simply dreaming up a way to fit more sugar into a square inch of dessert than has ever been possible. Wicked Joy, very wicked.

  10. Sara

YUM! I will be trying this one!!

  11. Emily

    Yep. I’m making these.

  12. joythebaker

Jo- Pregnancy cravings!? These bars should do you just fine. Feel better soon!

Thanks Clara! Make these for your hubby sometime soon. They’re too ridiculous to wait on.

Deb- Bon Appetit does peanut butter!? Oh my oh my! I can’t wait!

Deanna- A little overindulgence is necessary this time of year, don’t you think? Happy Baking!

Amanda- I’m with you girl. These bars are perfect for a SATC marathon, although if I’m in for that, I have to make a half batch, otherwise I’m afraid I’d have to turn my stomach inside out.

Erik- You’re right, I do have a spark of wicked on the inside!

  13. Holly

I know what I am making in the morning!!!

  14. Patsyk

    I’m drooling over these!

  15. Culinarywannabe

Holy cow…these look like trouble! Seeing as I just finished off a huge chunk of pb & chocolate fudge, I think I will be eating only broccoli for the weekend as well.

Oy Oy. Yep, I’m digging the chocolate/peanut butter combo. We must be on the same wavelength as I just used this flavor duo in the mother of all cakes.

  28. Jessica

Holy Crap! (I almost said OMG and I hate that!) Ok, so I always add a couple of tablespoons of peanut butter to my rice crispy treats anyway (seriously, you’ll never go back), but this is is so good. I’ve got to make some soon!

  29. Maria

    Hi Joy!

today is my birthday and i think i want to request these in lieu of cake– these look incredible! I love your blog, thanks for the recipes!

  30. Mike

I’m with Jessica–holy crap! Chocolate+peanut butter does me in any time, but you added another layer of awesome to what I previously thought was the perfect power-food-couple.

  31. Betsy

Wow, Joy, I had this same combo idea when you did! I was JUST blogging about peanut butter, chocolate and rice krispy bars! What perfection, huh?! Yours look much more sophicated and professional - mine were more “throw ‘em together” approach. I will have to try the fudge recipes!! :)

  32. steffy

woah. i am adding this to my list of christmas treats to give out this year… so easy!! … thanks!

  33. justjp

Okay, seriously this is ridiculous! 3 of my favorite treats is one diabetically hostel package. Brilliant. Keep up the good work.

These would be devoured by so many people that I know . They look great! All I need to figure out is how to not eat all the peanut butter fudge before the rest is made…

I actually made these last weekend and served them at my cookie exchange party. It was a good thing I had a crowd over or I would have devoured the entire pan. I plan to post them on my blog this week. I will make sure to link back to you.

  51. Carolyn

Holy molly!!! Those look delightfully evil…. Thanks for sharing, I may have to add them to my holiday list. :)

  52. Yolanda

I made these and took a small amount to my mom’s group and sent the rest with my husband to work for a cookie party. The reaction was the same in both places: swooning and an immediate demand for the recipe. While these were too sweet for my taste, they definitely attracted raving fans and made me a star.

One warning to those who are trying these, the peanut butter fudge takes some muscle. Make sure you have enough peanut butter and consider hand kneading if stirring gets too tough (I think Alton did this during the episode).

  53. Sarah Jackson

You have no idea how awesome these were. Oh wait… yes you do. You made them.

Anyphway, huge hit on the Comedy Central Cookie Walk of Shame and an even bigger hit at the mini-meetings at my cubicle last night when my friends and I wanted some peace and quiet. I saved a secret stash just for us.

However, I was sad to wake up this morning to a spoon lying beside me. Quickly realized this was from my post-party makeshift snack of peanut butter on a spoon with remaining chocolate chips sprinkled on top! How did the spoon end up in my bed…that’s not really the point, Joy.

    Next up, Chocolate Peppermint Deliciousness!

    -Sarah

  54. Lisa W.

Oh yum. I’m planning on making this tomorrow. I noticed the instructions include nuts in the chocolate fudge, but it’s not the ingredient list. It doesn’t look like there are nuts in the photos, so I’m gonna go without. Do you have printable recipes somewhere?

  58. PhillyGirl

Joy, you evil woman! I made these last night for an office party today. I halved the recipe and used an 8×8″ glass pan. I also added 1/2 tsp or so to the Rice Krispie layer. After I made the whole thing, I kept sneaking corner cuts from the fridge even before they were completely hard.. then I trimmed the edges before I cut the batch into 1″ squares and, of course, I just HAD to eat the “trimmings” plus a few more squares to taste.. Then today at the party while everyone else was making noises about them, I ate a few more pieces!! I had to give the recipe to two co-workers. Thanks much for testing this out first. It’s a keeper!!!

  59. PhillyGirl

Sorry, I meant to say that I added 1/2 tsp or so of vanilla to the Rice Krispie layer. Thanks again!

  60. Jenna

    Hi Joy!
Having recently discovered your website, I am in love with you, your baked goods & your blogs. The diverse recipes presented all seem modified to perfection, many basic ingredients blended together with love, creativity and vibrant descriptions so that even the inexperienced baker may enjoy them. I am a cook who expresses similar passion about my dishes, though if given a choice between salty or sweet, I will always opt for the former!
Besides the design of your site, which is visually appealing and a pleasure to navigate, the comical passion with which you quip about each recipe is delightful! Through your website, which has now become my baking bible, I am learning to love sweets!
But I must make a criticism about this recipe: using wax paper was a Bad idea! The regular Reynolds wax paper used stuck to the bottom of the wonderful treats so badly that it is coming off in shreds, and while I battle to scrape it off the sticky surface, the yummy fudge layers are getting damaged :-/
Just wanted to warn anyone else. That said, you are still my baking goddess!

  61. joythebaker

Hey Jenna- thanks so much for you comment! I’m so glad you’ve found a place to help you enjoy the sweet life. You’re comment was really thoughtful and sweet. Really, thanks.
So the wax paper didn’t work for you!? Ooooh no! I’m so sorry! I mentioned in the recipe that I skipped (or forgot :)) this step, so it’s really good to know that it doesn’t really work. Thanks so much. I’m sorry you had a hard time with it!
I hope you have a great holiday!

Philly Girl- I know! It’s totally evil of me to post this recipe. It’s nothing bu t dangerous. I found myself shaving off slice by slice too. They’re just too good!

Lisa W. I fixed that. No nuts! Well… only if you’d like them I suppose.

Thanks for all the lovely comments everyone! Thanks so much.

  62. Beverly

What an awesome recipe. Makes me crave chocolate just looking at the photos!

Our son often says, “Dad, you don’t like peanuts or peanut butter, but you like Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. How come?” Well, these bars are like peanut butter cups on top of his other favorite sweet treat - Rice Krispie Treats! I made these today, very good. I had to add more melted butter to the peanut butter fudge because I only had fresh ground on hand, still turned out okay. Thanks for the recipe.

  75. Angie

Thanks for the bump up - these will be perfect for Fathers Day - everything he loves. :)

  76. Rach

So I just made the P/B Fudge Treats and it looks insanely good! Am a little worried though as I misread the instructions and threw all the choc fudge ingredients in the pot together - waiting to see if the fudge will set or be a big gooey mess. Though I know will be eaten by all regardless!! Thanks Joy, I am one of your newer website addicts.

  77. Amanda

Totally made these and brought them to work to save myself from heart attack. My boss ate one and then pretended to hurriedly reach for his insulin. Cheesy I know, but pretty accurate actually.

  78. Amanda

Oh, and I just realized that my post sounded negative- I meant all those things in a positive way! They are DELISH.
