Heart Shaped Dipped Krispies
Written by joythebaker on February 5, 2009 – 12:52 pm -Holy WOW, people!!
Where the heck did you all come from!? I had no idea so many of you were sneaking around. I’m glad I could coax you out of the shadows with a giveaway. I only wish I had more bags to give away… Stick around, I’ve got more stuff to give. For reals.
In the mean time, how about a little Valentine inspired treat? When I think of Valentine’s Day, I usually want to run and hide. Red roses, pink boxes of candy, cheap champagne… count me way way way way out. The one thing about Valentine’s day I can support is homemade heart shaped treats.
And so, with the charmingly kitchy elements of Valentine’s Day in mind, I bring you Heart Shaped Dipped Krispies.
Ok… we pretty much all know what Rice Krispie treats taste like. Close your eyes and imagine them dipped in chocolate. There… wasn’t that easy!? Delicious. Simple as that.
The best part about throwing together Rice Krispie Treats is rediscovering the joy of having a bowl of this cereal with cold milk and a hearty sprinkle of granulated sugar. It’s an absolute dream. Snap, crackle, pop never hurt anybody.
First things first. Pour yourself a bowl of cereal. You’ll need a spoon. Where’s mine? Dunno.
Now get to making the treats.
Rice Krispie Treats
1 stick (8 tablespoons) unsalted butter
1 bag (that’s 16 ounces, right?) mini marshmallows
7 cups Crisped Rice cereal
pinch of salt
1 1/2 cups semi sweet chocolate chips
Butter a 9×13-inch pan well.
In a large sauce pan melt butter. Add pinch of salt and stir. Add mini marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Add cereal and stir so that all of the cereal is coated in marshmallow buttery goodness. While still hot, scoop into greased pan. Press with the back of a buttered spoon or butter your finger tips and use your hands to press the rice krispies batter into the pan.
Place in the fridge to cool. This took me about 30 minutes.
Once cool, use a good spatula to remove the entire slab of rice krispies from the pan. Place on a clean table. Using a heart shaped cookie cutter, cut out whatever size hearts you like. Place on waxed paper.
Boil a few inches of water in a medium sauce pan. Place chocolate chips in a heat proof bowl and place the bowl over the boiling water, creating a double boiler. Melt the chocolate.
Dip one side of the hearts in the melted chocolate and place then chocolate side up on the waxed paper. Let sit for several hours to harden or place in the fridge to hurry along the process.

How absolutely wonderful Joy…you brought a smile to my face with these. great great cut-outs!
Ah cute and so simple aswell, I think might bring these into work the day before Valentines, they’d love me!!!
I make these all the time as they are my son’s favorite treat. I keep them in vintage rice krispie cookie jar with the “snap, crackle, and pop” written on the side. I also add a splash of vanilla to mine.
These look great! I like the dipped-with-a-little-running-down-the-side look better than chocolate-spread-over-the-shole-pan-then-cut look, too.
Oh, and my bag of mini marshmallows weighs 10.5 ounces.
I hope you didn’t throw away all those little left over scraps.
Perfect treat for Valentine’s Day in the office or at home! So cute. And the best sorta thing to make when you’re in the nibble mood I’m sure.
[...] Dipped Heart Krispie Treats [...]
I made these last night and they came out great. So easy!
I saw these and fell in love with the simplicity and cuteness of it all … and I just finished making a batch. Thought myself smart using 2 cups of Ghirardelli (didn’t really think Callebaut went with rice krispies), ended up with excess melted chocolate. That turned into something delicious too – used the trimmings of krispies and formed them into small balls, dipping the balls in the chocolate. YUMM and double YUMM.
I have been thinking about something like this for my Sunday School kids. Wow! you showed me it can be done. Eazily! I don’t like them messed w/ too much but a chocolate dip & some pink sprinkes the Kids will lov’em . Bags are great if you can remember them. We are down in So-CAL where GREEN & PC originated . Thanks , I am going to keep your website handy..
My brother bought a bag or crisped rice cereals that he never got to finish, so yey! with this recipe i could easily whip something up with the leftovers
Hands down again joy! Thanks for answering my email about the brownie bottom ice cream cupcakes btw
i cooled them too much it turned out hard
it was impossible to cut them into hearts with out breaking the ones surrounding it so i ended up just cutting them into rectangles. hearts would’ve been nicer, but its no prooob. next time i’ll make sure not to leave it in the fridge too long! just enough for them not to be warm anymore (i left it for an hour, too long
)
thank you for sharing this simple but awesome recipe!! it deserves to be known.
Cheers from france!
