Joy the Baker on Rewind

Blood and Bones

This time last year I was up to all sorts of mischief in the kitchen.

Don’t believe me?  Well check out the Blood and Bones above.  Red hot chocolate with bone shaped meringues?  Sinister.

Butterscotch Pudding

How about this Butterscotch Pudding with Bourbon Whipped Cream.  One tablespoon of bourbon for the whipped cream…. five tablespoons of bourbon for my belly.  Please.  Thank you.

Carrot Cake Pancakes

Then there’s the Carrot Cake Pancakes with Cinnamon Cream Cheese Spread.  Cake and frosting for breakfast.  Sure, I can call them pancakes.  Yes, I added a vegetable… but seriously… this is just good old fashioned cake before noon.  I say do it!

It’s Friday friends!  What sort of mischief are you going to get up to in the kitchen this weekend?

After seeing your past mischiefs my plans seem to be very non-mischievous.. But my semi-mischievous plans for this weekend are brandy-infused chocolate cupcakes with a yet unchosen cream on top, and all sorts of chocolate bits and breaks on top of those. And if they turn out nice – yes, I will have one (two) for breakfast on Saturday.

This weekend I am making pita bread, and my Daring Bakers challenge. Both yum!

I am going to attempt some of my grandmother’s pie crust. And maybe that butterscotch pudding above!

My birthday is in a just over a week, and I am totally making the “blood and bones” for my party. Other than that…I’ll just be taking my daughter warm weather clothes shopping at a few consignment stores, stopping for a cupcake along the way. Nothing too mischievous!

This weekend I’ll be making a trip to (almost final) Farmer’s market to pick up apples for my Mom’s apple cake and squash for a pumpkin soup. We’re also making baguettes and chicken stock just to keep out of trouble! ;)

I’m baking an egg liqueur cake, and tomorrow a chocolate and pears cake for a friend’s dinner party.
Don’t worry, I always give away most of my cakes to friends and family!
    Have fun!

This weekend is my sister’s baby shower — not a regular baby shower. She wanted us to organize a Toga Tea Party for her. I have a whole lineup of greek inspired finger food. Anything from pita and greek dips, to mini souvlakis and one-bite greek salad. It’s going to be crazy!

I will be baking my husbands birthday cake, which is triple chocolate cake, whipped white chocolate ganache filling and caramel buttercream covered in chocolate fondant. And of course he would want something difficult so it will be in the shape of a cigar.

I’ve had bad coughs so there’s not much i can do(especially those that are chocolate related! :( hate it!), however, i am making pancakes from scratch for breakfast tomorrow though! I’m terribly considering making your banana pancakes too! they just look so damn good! Its been ages since i’ve made my own pancakes from scratch so i’m really looking forward to it. I’m also looking forward to try ur take on Brown butter white chocolate macadami cookies!

Joy!!! I love your blog!!! I was pre-Thanksgiving experimenting yesterday and finally got the courage (thanks to you!) to make a pie crust. Of course, I used your no roll dough and it came out wonderfully well! Thank you so much! It was so much easier than I expected and tasted delicious. Now I have at least one pie recipe ready for the holiday. What a relief!Thank you again!

Oh man butterscotch pudding sounds goooooooood! This weekend it will be cooling down a bit here in FL (70! Woot! Sweater Weather! o_0 lol) And cool weather turns me into a baking fool. For reals. I plan on manically baking all weekend. Come Monday there will be heaps of sugary delights to share with everyone I casually pass on the street. *sigh* I’m so excited.

Weekends are fun for me because during the week when my honey is working far away, I eat super ultra healthy. Then when he comes home for the weekends, I make all sorts of decadent fattening and fried foods. After 5 days of salads and tofu, nothing’s better than pasta and meat and bread!
Your butterscotch pudding recipe looks delicious! I’ll have to try that!

Joy, I love the Spooky treats and ideas. I am definately going to have to try the pudding, love a good homemade pudding or parfait. I just pulled some fudgy butterscotch brownies out of the oven and can’t wait to sink my “fangs” into them.

Thanks for always keeping things fresh, I know when I am down and can’t make my baking hands work, I will log onto the blog and get inspired again to go and do what I love!

this past weekend was my fall “girl’s weekend” wine tasting/pumpking carving/eating good food – I made lots of fall themed stuff (pumpkin seed salad, harvest potato bake, pumpkin cheesecake bars, etc, etc) and to top it off I made your vegan chocolate cake (as cupcakes) and made the avocado frosting! My friends weren’t in love with the frosting but they loved the cupcakes, they were super moist! thanks for always sharing deliciously creative ideas that I would never think of :)
