Ode to my Box Grater

Oatmeal Raspberry Scones

I was packing up my kitchen this afternoon and I got to thinking.

I got to thinking about my box grater… which is totally weird.

As if thinking at length about my box grater weren’t odd enough… I’m now going to shovel my box grater thoughts onto your lap.

There’s butter.  There’s cheese.  There’s roots and veggies.  All the drama and intrigue you could want from one little box grater.

aaaand… seriously… thanks for playing along.  I realize I’m ridiculous.

Carrot Cake Cupcakes with Dulce de Leche Buttercream

First things first: carrots.

These are Carrot Cake Cupcakes with Dulce de Leche Frosting.  These are best when unwrapped and shoved into your face.

Carrot Cake Pancakes

Carrot Cake Pancakes with Cream Cheese Spread.  Totally and completely  out of control.

Pizza for you face

Cheese.  Just say yes.

Homemade pizza and a movie rental with your honey… just the best night ever.  Take note.

Cheddar Black Pepper Biscuits

Cheddar Black Pepper Biscuits.  Because biscuits are the answer to every problem.

Zucchini Sweet Potato Bread

Grated greens and roots for Zucchini Sweet Potato Bread.  It’s the goodness.

Zucchini Pancakes

While we have the zucchini out.   Pancakes.  Zucchini Pancakes

No Roll Pie Crust and a Sugar Pie

Take frozen butter to the box grater.  It’s a wonder in pie and scone dough.  It’s a secret weapon from me to you.

This No Roll Pie Crust recipe I came up with… it’s dang amazing!

Oatmeal Raspberry Scones

Great idea! When I make my next peach cobbler, I’ll use my box grater to grate the three sticks of butter required for the crust. Wow! A mountain of grated butter!

Even though I’m pretty much just reiterating what every other commenter has said….the trick with grating frozen butter blew. my. mind. I’m pretty sure my life will never be the same. Thank you!

I have been married now for count them…. 34 years!!! And I have gone thru 2 box graters! Although, I must admit, I’m a bit stubborn about really giving up the 2nd one… The handle broke off and so I’m contenplating putting a wooden one onto it! Just hate to waste the actual grater… which still works! I must tell you… I made the oatmeal raspberry scones a while back for DH and he loved them! So much so, I made a huge batch and he took them to share with his crew at work! And I got lots of complements on them…. Although, I must say… I made them into triangels… same taste different look… guess I will try them your way next time!
Good luck on the move! Hang in there…. your young! Heck once your new neighbors find out that you bake all this wonderful stuff! Your loft will be the “place to be”!
Enjoy!

I have been attacked by many a box grater…sure one could argue that I asked for it, with my negligence; but I maintain that box graters have it out for me.

The pie crust is good, but not so sure if you invented it.. I have been using a cream cheese recipe crust for a while now, got it from an old country cookbook from a church sale, just saying…

the other day I couldn’t FIND my box grater. Trying to shred par-cooked potatoes for homemade hash browns on a mandolin =’s supreme frustration. Thankfully I crawled my 8mo pregnant self up onto a chair and discovered taller than me-Hubby had put it on a shelf far out of my reach…dinner was then saved…by the box grater. :)

Holy goodness, why did I not think to grate the frozen butter?! That would have saved me hours with my dough cutter and my wrist some unnecessary pain. You, my friend, are a thinker.

Oh the joys of a newly acquired box grater, after trying to use a newfangled grater on top of a plastic box. Seemed like a good idea, but now with all those low fat cakes and grated courgettes and butternut squash and beetroot, the joys of a box grater indeed!
