Oh I'm definitely going to try the melted butter bread flour recipe, just that description is making my mouth water. I definitely want to eat cookie dough now. Haha.

I have a batch of the NY Times recipe in my fridge right now! The 12-hour batch was good, and the 24-hour batch was better (a more even flavor, and surprisingly, the way it baked up wasn't different at all), but neither yielded the chewy ring mentioned in the article. Perhaps I need to remake the recipe with melted butter!

I will admit that I have an obsession with the notion of finding the definitive chocolate chip cookie; it is one of those things I think many of us aspire to, along with the perfect roast chicken or flakiest pie crust. I frequently chill my dough (though never as long as 36 hours) for a double chocolate cookie I make, as with this very tender dough I noticed an inconsistency between those cookies baked immediately and those baked towards the end. I am curious to see how the resting effects these! Thanks so much for reporting on this great experiment.

Interesting post, I have never thought about letting the cookie dough rest. My cookie recipe is very similar to yours only I use vanilla pudding mix.

I read that article and decided to try the 'resting' period. The problem is that I think I will eat all the dough during that time and there won't be anything left to make cookies with.

Joy,
I also read the NYT article. I've always refrigerated my dough overnite to reduce spreading of the dough when baking...didn't realize that there was more to this.

I'll definitely be checking back, as I'm curious to read the results of your experiment....Good luck!
